Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico were about 5.7 million mt in April 2011, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. This was 14.0 percent lower compared with shipments for April 2010. Total shipments for the year through April were approximately 18.3 million mt, about 2 percent lower than the same period in 2010.
Clinker production totaled 5.1 million mt in April 2011, about 2.0 percent below lower than the output in April 2010. Production for the year through April was 16.9 million mt, slightly lower than that for the same period in 2010. Masonry cement shipments of about 160,000 mt for April 2011 were nearly 17 percent lower compared with shipments in April 2010. Shipments for the year through April were 548,000 mt, down by almost 10 percent from those through April 2010.
April 2011 imports of cement and clinker of about 562,000 mt were down 5.0 percent from those in April 2010.
